International Roma Day, marked on 8 April, is devoted to Europe’s largest ethnic minority, the Roma, a predominant part of whom suffer from discrimination and isolation. This day also focuses on Roma history, culture, language and aspirations, which remain largely unknown in Europe.

During the European Migration Forum (2-3 March), I had the opportunity to co-host a workshop together with the European Commission. This year the theme was “Migrants’ access to the EU, to rights and to services”. Organised with the European Economic and Social Committee, the forum gathers around 200 participants, mainly from civil society organisations from both national and European level.

Instead of finding integrated and adequate housing solutions for these approximately 260 Roma who have been accommodated by the local authorities on a toxic waste dump in Masseria del Pozzo, the community will be moved to another segregated settlement
